Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree

Schoolcraft program code varies based on the specific AAS degree program.

At Schoolcraft College, students can choose from a wide range of Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree programs, each with a unique occupational focus and program code. These programs include a set of occupational courses that help students develop the necessary skills for their chosen career, as well as liberal arts courses that provide a well-rounded education. With an AAS degree, students will be equipped to pursue employment opportunities in their field of interest. To explore transfer options, it is recommended that students meet with an academic advisor.

General Education Requirements


Students who complete the requirements below will have completed all of Schoolcraft College Core Abilities and a minimum of 16 credit hours of associate-level Schoolcraft General Education requirements in English Communication, humanities, mathematics, natural sciences, and social sciences. All courses that apply to this degree must be at the 100- through 400-level with an overall minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 unless a higher cumulative grade-point is stipulated by the specific program.

Degree Requirements


English Communication (minimum 6 credits)


Complete a minimum of two English communication courses within a set of courses from the options below.

Option 1: Select two courses in composition from this list:

Option 2: Select one course in composition from this list:

AND Select one course in communication arts from this list:

Option 3: Select one of the following combinations: 

Humanities (minimum 1 credit)


  • Complete a minimum of one Humanities  course in Art, Communication Arts, English (Literature), Foreign Language, History, Humanities, Music, Philosophy, or Theatre

Mathematics (minimum 3 credits)


Natural Science (minimum 3 credits)


  • Complete a minimum of one Natural Science  course in Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science, Geography, Nutrition and Food Science, or Physics

Social Science (minimum 3 credits)


  • Complete a minimum of one Social Science  course in Anthropology, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, Psychology, or Sociology

Major Area of Study


  • Complete a minimum of 16-44 credit hours in a major concentration area which are identified and listed in the program requirements and are specific or supportive of the occupational goals.

Total Credits: 60


PLEASE NOTE: Students may not use the same History course to satisfy both the humanities and social sciences requirements. Additionally, students may not use the same Communication Arts course to satisfy both the humanities and English Communication requirements. Only certain Geography courses can be used for a natural science or social science course.

Three (3) types of courses  may be used toward fulfilling associate degrees at Schoolcraft College: liberal arts, applied liberal arts, and occupational. While applied liberal arts courses provide immediate skill-building opportunities, their transferability should be discussed with an academic advisor. Students can check www.mitransfer.org to verify the transferability of their courses.
