Description: In the final semester of clinical applications, students will be expected to perform advanced exams within the ultrasound department. Clinical competencies will correspond to completed didactic work performed in the lab. Students will be evaluated utilizing performance standards. This course will meet for 480-600 clinical hours in 8-10 hour shifts.

Prerequisites: DMS 220  with a minimum grade of 3.0.

Course Competencies
  1. Demonstrate professional interaction/communication skills with the patient, clinical supervisor, department personnel and radiologist.
  2. Educate other health care providers and the public in appropriate applications of ultrasound, including medical terminology, pertinent clinical signs, symptoms and laboratory tests.
  3. Perform peripheral vascular scanning protocols.
  4. Create quality diagnostic studies that demonstrate appropriate anatomy.
  5. Perform competencies in 1st, 2nd, 3rd trimester and pelvis exams.
  6. Demonstrate advanced competency in OB/Gyn, abdominal, neuro and small part exams.
  7. Demonstrate Doppler skills in abdomen and extremity vasculature.
  8. Demonstrate competency in intraoperative procedures using sterile technique.
  9. Distinguish normal vs abnormal anatomy.
  10. Distinguish pathology of pertinent exams studied in the lab.
  11. Demonstrate accurate image acquisition and analysis.
  12. Demonstrate advanced scanning techniques for trauma and critical care patients.
  13. Formulate a technical impression utilizing skills acquired.
