HIT 117 - ICD-10-CM/PCS Credits: 3 Lecture Contact Hours: 2 Lab Contact Hours: 2 Description: This course provides an introduction to basic ICD-10-CM/PCS coding theory. This course is designed for the classification of patient morbidity and mortality information for statistical purposes, for the indexing of health/medical records by disease and operation for data storage and retrieval and for reimbursement purposes. ICD-10-CM and PCS Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting for hospital inpatient and outpatient services will be utilized. Laboratory activities focus on the application of the related skills with accuracy and completeness using manual and computerized methods.
Prerequisites: None. Corequisites: HIT 118 if not taken previously. HIT 120 if not taken previously. Recommended: None.
