CNT 210 - CCNA Networking 1

Description: This is the first of four courses designed to prepare students for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification. Fundamental networking topics including structure, functions, components, media, addressing and common protocols are introduced. Students will perform basic network device configuration.

Prerequisites: None.
Corequisites: None.
Recommended: Basic knowledge and/or experience in the field of IT or successful completion of CIS 115 .

Course Competencies
  1. Differentiate between the various devices and services used to support communications in data networks.
  2. Determine the role of protocol layers in data networks.
  3. Identify common transport and application layer protocols.
  4. Ascertain the importance of addressing and naming schemes in data networks.
  5. Calculate subnet masks for Internet Protocol versions 4 and 6 (IPv4 and IPv6).
  6. Design appropriate addressing and subnet schemes to fulfill requirements using IPv4 and IPv6.
  7. Demonstrate knowledge of fundamental Ethernet concepts.
  8. Identify types of network media.
  9. Construct a simple network using network devices.
  10. Utilize a command line interface (CLI) to perform basic router configuration.
  11. Utilize a CLI to perform basic switch configuration.
  12. Validate network operation with common network utilities.
