BMET 205 - Biomedical Instrumentation Terminology and Safety 2 Credits: 3 Lecture Contact Hours: 2 Lab Contact Hours: 1 Description: Students will build upon the foundational skills developed in Biomedical Instrumentation Terminology and Safety 1, continuing to draw on core knowledge in electronics, information technology, and human anatomy and physiology. Taken in conjunction with the BMET internship, this course bridges classroom theory with real-world clinical experience by exploring and analyzing concepts encountered during the internship in greater depth. Students will gain hands-on experience with electrosurgical units, bedside monitor configuration, and various types of biomedical test equipment, while also learning to navigate the medical equipment lifecycle and apply hospital safety protocols. Emphasis is placed on understanding the role of regulatory agencies in shaping biomedical practices, and networking with other BMET professionals.
Prerequisites: Acceptance into the BMET program. BMET 117 with a minimum grade of 3.0. Corequisites: BMET 256 . Recommended: None.
