Surgical Services is a designated area located in most healthcare facilities that offer integrative support of diagnostic, procedural, and surgical intervention. Multidisciplinary health systems utilize team efforts to coordinate and deliver high-quality patient care. Team members include representation from all aspects of the healthcare delivery process including but not limited to: the central services department (sterile processing), operating room suites, preoperative holding, and post-operative anesthesia unit. The Schoolcraft Surgical Services area will offer programs to allow the prospective student the opportunity to explore the healthcare field with the following option(s):
- The Sterile Processing skills certificate will prepare the future healthcare employee for an entry-level position in the central services department with the opportunity to sit for the national CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technicians) exam.
- The Associate in General Studies using Sterile Processing allows the student to apply their Sterile Processing coursework to the AGS degree.
- The Surgical Technology AAS will prepare competent entry-level surgical technologists in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains while preparing to sit for the national CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) exam to earn their credential.
