Radiologic Technology AAS Program Application Information

The Radiologic Technology program provides the knowledge that will enable students to enter the workforce as entry-level technologists. The didactic and clinical learning experiences require approximately 40 hours of participation per week in the second year of the program.
Educational facilities located within Schoolcraft College include state of art classroom and clinical training resources designed to promote an exceptional educational experience.
Successful completion of the program requirements qualifies the student to take the national credential examination offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, A.R.R.T. Satisfactory achievement of this examination qualifies the graduate to practice as a Registered Radiologic Technologist, R.T. (R).

Application Requirements
The Radiologic Technology Program requires students to complete a specific list of requirements before being officially admitted into the program. Students are listed in a pre-program code while the application requirements are being met. The full program start date and implementation of program code may be dependent on space availability. Requirements are listed in the application. To be admitted to the program you must complete the following:

2. Transcripts |
It is recommended you request official undergraduate transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended. Transcripts must be sent directly from the issuing college or university to the Schoolcraft College Records Office. To confirm that transcripts have been received, contact the Answer Center & Help Line at 734-462-4426. |
3. Advising |
The Radiologic Technology program requires minimum assessment levels of course work in the areas of math, reading, and writing. Students should meet with an academic advisor to develop an academic plan. Students with prior college level work or a degree may be exempt from general college placement testing. Students who have submitted ACT or SAT scores that are less than three years old to the Admissions Office may also be exempt from assessment testing. Contact the Academic Advising Center at 734-462-4429 to make an appointment to discuss an academic plan and preparation for the TEAS (Radiologic Technology entrance) exam.
Radiologic Technology students should possess and maintain the following to be able to adequately communicate, make decisions, manipulate equipment, perform procedures, and provide indirect or direct quality care for clients in a variety of healthcare settings:
- Sufficient intellectual, psychological, and emotional capabilities
- Sufficient capacity to concentrate for sustained periods of time
- Sufficient communication skills
- Sufficient visual acuity
- Sufficient auditory perception
- Sufficient gross and fine motor coordination
- Sufficient physical abilities and strength required to push, pull, transfer or move objects up to approximately 35 pounds utilizing safe patient handling techniques
- Sufficient physical stamina to remain standing for long periods of time

- RAD 100 - Introduction to Radiology Sciences (3.0+)
- RAD 105 - Radiation Safety (3.0+)
- MATH 102 - Technical Mathematics or MATH 113 - Intermediate Algebra for College Students + (3.0+)
- BIOL 236 - Human Anatomy and Physiology (3.0+) or BIOL 237 - Principles of Human Anatomy and Physiology 1 and BIOL 238 - Principles of Human Anatomy and Physiology 2 (3.0+)
- PHYS 123 - Applied Physics (3.0+)
- Overall GPA 2.5+

5. Admission Exam |
The ATI TEAS Exam (Test of Essential Academic Skills) is a multiple-choice exam that must be taken using the online version. The TEAS Exam includes:
- 31% Reading: Key Ideas & Details (15%), Craft & Structure (9%), Integration of Knowledge & Ideas (7%)
- 16% English and Language: Convention of Standard English (6%), Knowledge of Language (6%), Vocabulary Acquisition (4%)
- 31% Science: Human Anatomy & Physiology (21%), Life & Physical Science (5%), Scientific Reasoning (5%)
- 22% Mathematics: Number & Algebra (16%), Measurement & Data (6%)
- Minimum TEAS Exam scores required are: Composite: 60% (Adjusted Individual Total Score), 68% Reading, 60% English, 60% Math, 50% Science.
Achieve the required minimum scores on the ONLINE TEAS Exam (Test of Essential Academic Skills) within two attempts. Students may take the TEAS exam a maximum of 2 times within a 12-month period. The highest score for each section of the two attempts will be accepted. Ex: Students may not take a third attempt until the first test date attempt expires. The maximum number of attempts on the TEAS exam is four (4) attempts overall. Students must complete all sections of the TEAS Exam with maximum effort on each attempt for scores to be accepted and composite score must still be 60% or higher.
TEAS online exam scores are not accepted from other institutions. All TEAS testing will need to be taken in person at the Schoolcraft College Testing Center.
Students who may need academic testing accommodations should meet with the Disability Support Services Office (734-462-4330) prior to taking the TEAS exam to determine potential accommodations.
The Schoolcraft College Personal and Professional Learning Department has a preparation course available to assist with test success http://www.schoolcraft.edu/PPL and the ATI website also has study materials and practice exams available. The Schoolcraft College Learning Support Services department also provides free personalized TEAS prep plans for success through one-on-one and group formats. TEAS Exam attempts at Schoolcraft College must be scheduled in advance. Fees paid are non-refundable and non-transferrable. Students needing to change testing dates will need to pay the full fee. Obtain more information regarding the TEAS exam: https://www.schoolcraft.edu/testingcenter/teas.

6. Cumulative GPA |
Attain a 2.5/C+ or better cumulative grade point average for all RAD program supportive and prerequisite courses. |
7. RAD 105 Radiation Safety Permit |
Meet with an academic advisor to complete permit for RAD 105 - Radiation Safety . |
Applying to Radiologic Technology
8. Apply to Radiologic Technology |
Complete the student portion of the Radiologic Technology Program Application and meet with an academic advisor for academic planning and to sign off on the application. The academic advisor will submit the application packet to the Admissions and Welcome Center.
Applications are reviewed on a continual basis and students will receive an acceptance letter via email from the program officials, which states the year, and cohort the student will be able to start the RAD program. Students who do not respond to correspondence by deadlines will be cancelled by the Medical Imaging Department.
All required prerequisites must be completed (with final course grade on transcript) prior to submitting application. |
9. Hepatitis B Vaccine |
Students, who do not have the Hepatitis B vaccine three shot series already completed, should begin the series while waiting to start the Radiologic Technology program. |
10. CPR Course for Healthcare Professionals |
Students should wait to complete an American Heart Association Basic Life Support course for Professional Healthcare Providers until approximately 2 months prior to clinical rotations in the RAD program. Students need to complete a course that includes an in-person demonstration of the performance skills (adult, child, infant and AED use). 100% online courses are not accepted. |
11. Other Radiologic Technology Program Requirements |
Students will be emailed additional information about Orientation sessions and other health/clinical/program requirements approximately two months prior to student’s program start date. Correspondence will only be sent to Schoolcraft College email. |
Acceptance to Radiologic Technology and prior to starting the Program
- The order of acceptance of qualified applicants will be based on the date the College receives a valid application. An application is valid only if all the requirements listed in this document have been met.
- Any incomplete applications received from a student will be returned. Applications may be resubmitted when all the requirements have been met.
- In the event more than one qualified student applies on the same day, the applications will be ordered based on highest cumulative grade point average in the prerequisite/supportive courses.
- Accepted students will be emailed an information packet from the Medical Imaging department to Schoolcraft College email only. Information will be emailed approximately two months prior to the start semester. Students are responsible for maintaining current contact information for all college communications. Students should get their college email forwarded to their primary email so as not to miss any communications.
- Students may defer their admission only one time, otherwise, the student will need to reapply and meet the application requirements at that time.
- Students who do not meet Medical Imaging deadlines or have been accepted to the program and then are “no call, no show” to start the program, will be cancelled and not eligible to reapply to the program in the future. (Requirements subject to change. Students will be sent emails with requirements to Schoolcraft College emails only.)
- After one week of Spring semester start date for Spring start cohorts, preference will be given for students to be pulled up to spots vacated, with students who have completed the RAD 100 - Introduction to Radiology Sciences OR are currently enrolled in this course and have current passing status.
- Participate in a mandatory RAD Student informational session to discuss educational goals, learning techniques/strategies, and recommendations for success in the program by Medical Imaging deadline dates.
REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO RAD PROGRAM CLINICAL ROTATIONS
- Complete all health/clinical placement requirements and provide documentation including a health questionnaire/physical exam (dated within the last 12 months from the fall start of the Radiologic Technology program), TB testing, immunization records including Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Tetanus, diphtheria, Pertussis (TdaP), Varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, flu vaccine (in season), COVID vaccine, a negative urine drug screen on first attempt (marijuana use is still prohibited), and pass a criminal background check by the Medical Imaging Department.
- Drug screens may need to be repeated throughout the program as required by clinical agencies. Students will also need to meet any other future health/clinical/agency requirements as specified by the agencies.
- An authorization to register is only issued by the Medical Imaging Department upon completion of the specified requirements.

Students, who are unsuccessful with any RAD course, may not continue in the Radiologic Technology program.
Students should work with an advisor if more credits are needed per semester to qualify for financial aid.
