Schoolcraft program code # AAS.00254

Recognizing the need for more highly skilled fire fighters, many municipalities now require additional education for their employees. The curriculum developed for the associate of applied science degree program combines lectures with hands-on activities to prepare the student to respond to a variety of emergencies. Specialists in the field provide valuable input on both content and methodology.

The Fire Fighter 1 and 2 courses cover content that is identical to the Fire Academy course but in a part-time format. Therefore, two sample schedules are offered below.

Students who satisfactorily complete all college and program requirements qualify for an associate of applied science degree.

Contact the Fire Technology office at 734-462-4305 for additional information.

The Fire Fighter Technology Programs and Fire Academy courses are certified by the Michigan Office of Fire Fighter Training. For more information, regarding certification please contact: Bureau of Fire Services/OFFT PO Box 30700, Lansing, MI 48909 • 517- 241-8847 www.michigan.gov

Programs Requiring Licensure

Federal regulations require Schoolcraft College to publicly disclose, for each educational program designed to meet the educational requirements for a specific professional license or certification required for employment in an occupation (or advertised as meeting a requirement for employment), information about whether program completion would meet those requirements in a state. These public disclosure requirements apply to all programs, regardless of their modality (i.e., on-ground, online, and hybrid programs).

Please see the disclosure related to the educational requirements for professional licensure and certification.

Prior Learning Credit

Often students select a program for which they possess prior knowledge.  In some cases, students can earn college credit for this knowledge, to replace one or more courses in the program. Please see the Prior Learning Credits webpage for more information.  At least one external licensure or certification has been identified for this program meeting these criteria.

Articulation Agreement

This program has an articulation agreement. Articulation agreements create seamless transitions to 4-year colleges or universities. They may ensure the transferability of an entire associate’s degree, allow for transferring extra credits, or provide guaranteed admission. Terms and transferable credits vary by program and institution. For more details, visit the Articulation Agreement web page.
