Physical Education Movement Science Certificate

The certificate in Movement Science prepares students for entry level positions in the fitness field. Students will have significant preparation toward certification testing as a personal trainer or group exercise instructor. The certificate coursework can later be incorporated in the associate degree if students are interested in furthering their education.

Students who successfully complete all program courses qualify for a certificate of program completion.

Program Outcomes

  • Identify the sub-disciplines of kinesiology
  • Identify the fundamentals of exercise physiology
  • Teach proper exercise techniques across cardiovascular, muscular, flexibility and neuromuscular function spectrum
  • Conduct a member/client consultation, including administrative processing, health risk factor evaluation, and goal setting
  • Conduct a fitness assessment, including interpretation of  the results
  • Explain the scope of practice regarding nutritional guidance
  • Teach a group exercise class
  • Summarize the responsibilities and obligations of an exercise professional
  • Explain how the scholarly study of the physiology of physical activity is a key component of careers in kinesiology
  • Identify entrepreneurial elements of fitness professions
