FIRE 277 - Fire Protection Hydraulics and Water Supply

Description: This course provides the student with a foundation of theoretical knowledge to understand the principles of the use of water in fire protection and apply hydraulic principles to analyze and solve water supply problems.  Students who successfully complete this course may apply to be recognized by the U.S. Fire Administration through the Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE) initiative

  2. Differentiate force and pressure.
  3. Explain the principles of energy through Bernoulli’s principle.
  4. Calculate the velocity and flow of water in relation to area.
  5. Calculate gallons per minute of water flow and pressure.
  6. Examine friction loss within the distribution of water.
  7. Differentiate the various types of water pumps.
  8. Analyze the theory of drafting.
  9. Differentiate various fire streams.
  10. Calculate pump discharge pressure.
  11. Differentiate the various types of water distribution systems.
  12. Examine the properties of standpipes and sprinklers.
