EARTH 294 - Directed Study in Earth Science Credits: 3 Lecture Contact Hours: 1 Off Site Contact Hours Without Faculty: 2 - 40 Description: This course provides an opportunity for students to explore in-depth learning experiences in Earth and Environmental Science or related fields. Students may seek these experiences on or off campus, and may pursue paid or unpaid work assignments, internships in the public or private sector, investigations of a topic or issue, research projects at Schoolcraft or other colleges/universities, or other approved comprehensive learning opportunities. Students will work under the guidance of a faculty member from the department and are required to obtain permission from the faculty member before registering. With the faculty member, students will determine plans for the course regarding when to meet, the course focus, and assessments, which will be approved by the administrator. Students registered in this course are considered Schoolcraft College students with all rights, responsibilities and privileges of a student when on or off campus.

Course Competencies 1. Utilize Earth and Environmental Science skills to solve problems appropriate to the task or concept.
2. Develop a project plan, assessment format, and timeline for a directed study project in Earth and Environmental Science.
